A First Great Western HST departs London Paddington with the 0845 service to Pembroke Dock, underneath Brunel's great trainshed

166201, waiting to form the 0921 to Oxford, and an HST, waiting to form the 0900 to Bristol Temple Meads, both sit under the shed at London Paddington, terminus of the Great Western Mainline

Paddington station is dominated by the blue of First Great Western, with a Heathrow Express unit thrown in for variation

332001, sits in the Heathrow Express platforms at London Paddington, waiting to form a service to the capitals airport

Reading is a major interchange on the GWML, as well as a major bottleneck. Two turbos wait in the bay platforms, with the delayed 0957 Reading - Bristol Temple Meads waiting to depart on platform 4

Reading station is in line for a multimillion pound re-development to alleviate some of the delays caused by there only being one platform to the West, of which up to 10 trains can pass per hour 

43139 prepares to depart Port Talbot Parkway with the 0945 Paddington - Swansea service

158886, on hire from South West Trains, slows to stop at Gloucester, with a Cheltenham - Swindon service

Back at Swindon, 158886, on hire from SWT due to stock shortage, prepares to reverse and head back to Cheltenham

At Worcester Shrub Hill, 150214 departs with a service to Dorridge, whilst a FGW HST waits in the adjacent platform preparing to depart with the 2002 to London Paddington

At Didcot Parkway, a turbo departs Didcot heading towards Oxford with a stopping service from London

165104 sits at a very wet Didcot Parkway, with a stopping service to the capital

A disgraced 150233 sits at Freshford having failed due to an air leak whilst working the 0935 Frome - Bristol Temple Meads

158959 was dispatched from Bristol to rescue, as the unit was causing severe delays to all services around, due to London trains being diverted along the Avon valley. It is seen running wrong line into Freshford, where it would couple to 150233

43207 tails a Cross Country service from the North East to Plymouth at Newton Abbot
